who can forget this episode of a different world when the ladies of gilbert hall battled the girls of libby hall? a different world used to be my show. it was a spin-off of the cosby show and had a nice little run of 6 seasons from 87-93. the setting was hillman college, a fictional hbcu in virginia. years later, i can really give this show its due props for not only being entertaining but depicting college life in such an attractive light. if you didn't want to go to college before watching the series, you probably wanted to go after.
this very episode inspired me and my 6th grade homies (shout out to gmrice, carly, jackie, tiffany and audrey) to do our own step routine at our school's talent show. we called ourselves the def steppers. we wore white biker-type tights, our white and blue class of '89 sweatshirts (i wish i still had mine) and white keds aka bo-bos. you couldn't tell us nothing.
ours went a little like this: abcd efg hijk lmnop qrs tuv wxyz, cuz we're flyy, we know it, flyy, we know it ...
