i see vintage in a new house.

the move to the new house is coming, yawl. i'm claiming it. and at least once a day i daydream of how i will sprinkle vintage touches throughout the new construction. a pretty blend of vintage and contemporary ... well of course.

here are just a few vintage pieces on my wish list:

without a doubt, there will be a clawfoot tub somewhere in the new home. i absolutely love clawfoot tubs. my nana had one - i loved it then and i love it now.

a splash of color and an old school rotary phone. i've already copped about 2 of these.

yessirrr. i've been looking for one for a while now; i'll probably take it further back than the one pictured. complete with some classic albums.

nope, can't sew even a little bit. but that won't stop me from sitting one of these bad boys in the work room.

a vintage fan was not on my original list but i came across this photo from jollytimeone's etsy page and loved it.

and how sweet would it be to have one of these parked outside in the garage. vintage maserati ... so sweet i caught a cavity just looking at it. i wouldn't be able to stand myself with one of these! sigh. one can dream, right?

vintage music saturday: michael mcdonald - i keep forgettin'.

warren g's regulate popped up on my pandora station the other day which samples michael mcdonald's i keep forgettin' (1982). i had to pull up the original. i almost forgot about this soulful blue-eyed crooner. his voice is absolutely amazing and soothing. remember his duo with patti - on my own? i never knew mcdonald was a member of steely dan and the dooby brothers (wait, was he on that episode of what's happenin' when raj and them went to the dooby brothers' concert?).

i'm wearing silly bandz.

if you have kids (or nieces or nephews) then you already know about the craze behind silly bandz. every other year a new concept emerges that sends kids and their parents into a frenzy. for us, in the 80s, it was jelly bracelets, stickers, garbage pail kids and slap bracelets. there's probably more to add to that list but that's what comes to mind. when i was in high school i worked at a party store and the kid craze was pogs. remember those? never quite got the drift of how those worked but the kids thought they were pretty hot.

so what are silly bandz? colorful rubber bracelets that take and keep the shape of almost anything you can think of. stars, guitars, cupcakes, baseballs, dollar signs, letters, animals, cowboy hats, hearts. you name it, they got it. they call them fashion accessories which i guess they are to some. but for others they're just another trading item and a race to see who can collect the most and the coolest.

well i visited that same party store where i used to work yesterday and their entire front counter was covered with silly bandz. i already knew about them because my niece and nephew have about a 100. each! we went out to eat and my nephew dumps them all on the table. the 20-something year old waitress was so impressed she ended up trading a couple with him.

my niece warned that there are real ones - silly bandz - and then there are the fake ones - silly bandz' competitors. silly bandz were the first to come out so those are the most desirable. and like any other major fad, the schools eventually banned them. oh how history repeats itself.

if you take away nothing else from this post, take away this: if you have an invention that sounds stupid to most people - do it! especially if it involves kids. the trends that catch on are unbelievable.

anywho: i was presented with two yesterday. a car and a dog:

i think i need to step my silly bandz game up, though, and grab a few more cooler ones. the kids would agree.

i was actually encouraged by my older brother to start a blog. he's always felt i had an interesting perspective, especially when it came to fashion, so i decided to share that perspective with the world. i also started the blog because i felt there were a surplus of high-end fashion blogs and gossip celebrity blogs that were negative. her goody bag shows practical fashionable living without the negativity.

future plans?
i am working on taking HGB to the next level and i am in the process of starting my own image consulting/personal shopping company. so be on the look out for that!

your style can be described as?

classic with an edgy twist. i am not too much into trends, i prefer mixing classic pieces that will never go out of style with the season's "must have" item.

favorite style icon?
victoria beckham for her confidence and boldness. michelle obama for her classic style. and rihanna for her edginess and ability to make almost anything look like a million bucks!

it would have to be michelle obama. she is awesome!

moment of silence for one of the best who ever did it. yes, i'm still kinda crazy over pac. not quite as crazy as when i was in high school and had his pictures all over my wall. or when i won front row tickets from power 99 to go see him at the dell east and then got teary-eyed when they cancelled the concert. but still a fan. pac would have turned 39 today. he's thoroughly missed. i was about to post to live and die in la today but then realized i posted that video last year on this day. so here's another one off 1996's the don killuminati: the 7 day theory cd, toss it up. his buddies jodeci are also in the video. check it:

drake made me eat my words.

so yeh, i didn't quite dig drake when he first came out. if you're a regular around here, you may remember me fussing about the nerve of folks to call drake the hottest thing since sliced bread without a cd, yadda yadda. a year later i see things a bit differently. his cd, thank me later, came out today. of course i didn't buy it (you have to be pretty special for me to take a trip to crowded best buy to buy your cd on its release date) but i heard a couple of cuts on the radio that i'm feeling. did you hear the one with swizz, something like, oh you fancy. jawn's pretty hot.

so ok, there. i admit it. i hope he doesn't get all corny though and start acting out of his character. there's a bit of dorkiness about him that is kinda ... cute. his music is grown and his flow is tight. i think he'll be around for a little bit. thoughts?

the red bag boutique.

i'm super late but did you know that model, chanel iman and her mom, china robinson, opened the red bag boutique back in may? where have i been?

it's in culver city, cali and sells both vintage and contemporary clothing (like sgb). the store looks amazing and i love the name. how fabulous would it be to jump on a plane and go visit? one day ...
