old school trend: swatch watches.

raise your hands (and make em' stay there :) if you were rocking a swatch back in the 80s! what! anybody who was somebody had a swatch watch.

after reading that the founder of the swiss product, nicholas hayek, passed away on monday at the age of 82, i got very reminiscent of this old school trend.

a swatch wasn't just any watch. born in 1983, it was fun and vinyl. bold colors and designs made it recognizable from across the room. the watch head was interchangeable so everyone's looked a bit different.

ok so you remember the watch. but who remembers the swatch guard? yup. this accessory sent parents everywhere running back to the store to buy the ultra-cool and very necessary watch head cover. they were multi-colored, rubber band strips. and if you were fancy, you'd twist a couple of them together for unique look.

i have another one for you. who remembers the swatch wall clock? it was designed as a wall-sized version of the actual swatch. mine was yellow and black and hung right alongside my bed. ahh, the memories.

(i don't remember mine being quite this big)

sgb has about 10 old school, original swatches that will be available for retail once we re-emerge. stay tuned.

and rest peacefully, mr. hayek.

change is good, huh.

i've been unplugged. and it sure feels good. first, the obvious changes.

new blog design. you like? thanks! i did it myself through blogger's new design editor. i didn't put too much thought into it. i just went with what i thought looked cute. funny because i was hesitant to click "apply changes." it took me a half a second to realize that it really wasn't that serious and went for it.

sharing is caring. that's why you will now see a share link on most of my posts. if you facebookers and twitterers read something you like, click share and send it to your homies. please and thanks.

lastly, the visual changes are my inspiration to perfect my masterplan. like what's next for sgb. not just the blog but the store. an e-boutique is cool but a brick and mortar is on my prayer list. i'm full of ideas, people! stick around for a while and hopefully we'll see these ideas manifest.

so yeh, about this unplugged stuff. i'm off the book for a while so my fb folks can find me here or on email. twitter has always annoyed me so i've been off of there. i'm off the gossip blogs and basically any other noise. time to focus on the business plans, the blog, the tabletop book about the entrepreneurship journey i'm supposed to be writing, a possible return to school for my masters and all that other good stuff.

sound good? good.

our credos.

- when all else fails, look fabulous

- those who say that it's not what's on the outside that matters, lie

- but ... strive to keep that inside just as fabulous as your outside
- own your steeze

- vintage is flyy

- enjoy your wardrobe, mix it up; don't be afraid to rock the unexpected

- confidence & a smile go a long way

- labels do not = style.

me and my bright ideas: sgb name change, though?

watch out everyone. lim has had yet another light bulb moment. i suddenly have the urge to change the sui generis boutique name. i'm not sure if this just a fleeting thought or will i really go through with it.

what you think? back in '05, i fell in love with the term sui generis as soon as the dictionary.com word of the day email told me what it means: only one of its kind, unique. i thought it fit well for vintage clothing and the sgb format ... one of a kind, do you, stand out, yadda yadda.

but folks, i'm just vintage period. old school music, old school tv, old school swag ... i'm attracted to all that reps anything before the current. yep, just about. i'm thinking something more vintage'y.

my brain is on over-time this morning ... hmm ... wondering if i should go for it.
