rihanna inspired my new hair-do itch.

the eagles played (another vick-tory, thank you) so of course that was on my tv screen last night. but i did catch a peek of rihanna opening the ama's. i realize that popular belief is that this blog stans for ms. rih rih. and we do. most of the time. she has her misses, especially lately. but for the most part, i dig her steeze. she has that don't-give-a-$hit youthfulness about her - i've always kinda liked that.

with that said, i thought her performance was cute last night. i said "go rih rih" as she winded and dipped it low. no, she doesn't blow like a monica but she has an unique sound that will grow on you. ok, well maybe.

so on to the new hair do itch. my short black do is my signature but somehow her curly-fry red weave had me inspired to switch it up a bit. nothing spectacular but kinda cute. who am i kidding? all of that hair on my head would drive me coo-coo. i'd be ready to pull it out in a day. two days tops.
pretty elie saab gown, too.

did you watch the emmy's?

i didn't. other than the red carpet looks, they don't really excite me. i did spot a picture of this fabulous looking couple from last night's award show:
nicole and her hubby boris kodjoe.
nicole never quite does it for me and i'm not particularly crazy about the strapless pink (peach?) and black dress that she chose but she looks absolutely stunning. i'm loving the hair. and of course boris isn't too bad himself. right ladies?

katy pery shines at the met.

literally.

but before i expand allow me to briefly digress. i know that i didn't post any of the much anticipated gowns from the annual metropolitan museum of art costume institute gala that went down in nyc on monday. and although i like to marvel over who wore what, i figured that you could catch recaps all over the net. right?

but i'm so lying. i didn't post any pictures because i've been slacking all week long. please excuse me. blog posts have slowed up but will definitely return this weekend. i'm on spring break.

but i did come across this light-up dress by cute circuit worn by ms. she-kissed-a-girl herself, katy perry. i was wondering what you thought about it. brilliant? fabulous? tacky?

it was a one-shoulder pink and white dress lined with flashing rope lights and a sexy slit. i say it is just perfect for the dramatic gowns that we come to expect from the met. definitely a conversation piece.

oh and of course, there were plenty of beautifully dressed stars at the met. like chanel iman's gold jumpsuit was so flyy. so if you haven't seen them yet, i do encourage you to google them.

ciao!

style recap: nicole richie, 2010 oscar awards.

i probably said this last year but i'll say it again. the oscar's have never really excited me. i'm not what you'd call a big movie person. the only movie i've even seen from last night's show was precious so i can't ever voice much of an opinion on who should or shouldn't win. i watched long enough to hear monique's acceptance speech (she won for best supporting actress). that's all i wanted to see.

i usually marvel at the dresses but this year i barely did that. i figured i'd check out the blogs today and find out who looked hot.

there were plenty of beautiful ladies on the red carpet as you've probably seen but i have to give it to nicole richie who looked absolutely stunning last night. she rocked a reem acra dress:
very retro-chic. she looks amazing. i couldn't find a rear view of the dress but it was open back.
and her make-up and hair were on point. she sported simple jewelry (including that nice rock on her left ring finger from fiance joel madden).
i'll leave it to the other blogs to give you their recaps but i had to mention ms. ritchie.

olsen twins are elle's style icons of the year.

the 2010 elle style awards went down last night in london. ashley and marykate olsen took home the style icons of the year award. i think i can co-sign that. i think they are stunning. i love their remarkable styles. i do have a favorite but i can never remember which one it is. i think it's ashley. we had a debate in the hair salon once about them and chicks just weren't giving the twins their due props.

as you can see, they went for different looks. ashley rocked a tulle, taupe gown - vintage christian lacroix!! - and mary kate rocked a goth look in an all black lanvin dress (she's looking very madonna'ish in the face, agree?)
which look are you feeling?
you already know which one i like best.

grammy's 2010.

the grammy's are still one of my favorite award shows, moreso, for the fashion than anything else. the music part, well sometimes they get it right but most of the time it's wrong. it's like high school. the popular kids get noticed while the not-so-popular kids get shunned.

anyway, my 2 favorite looks of the night were no doubt on keri hilson and rihanna.

dolce & gabana ... keri you betta work!

and do we ever expect anything less than fabulous on rih rih. this elie saab gown is marvelous.

other grammy night beauties:

mary was beautiful and understated in a fuscia gucci gown

i actually liked b's stephane rolland dress ... i'm liking the nude-hue on her.

melanie fiona looked beautiful. i would have loved to see this dress in another color.

and beautiful ladies but not my favorite looks:
oh ciara. this just isn't working for her. it just isn't. in fact, not too many people could pull this off. leave this for the experts.

j. lo never seems to get it quite right if you ask me. what is this?

and toni. just no. wrong shoes. she looks ... rushed.
but hey. who am i? but a blogger with an opinion. who were your favorites?

1.31.2010

j. hud @ clive davis' pre-grammy gala.

so judging from the comments i've read on other sites about jennifer hudson's pre-grammy gala dress, folks ain't feeling it. not one bit.
and of course, i love it! what?! purple. leather. exagerrated shoulders. loving it! i'd rock the heck out of it - minus the shoes; i'd have to make another shoe choice.
anywho, lots of outfits to marvel at on celebs last night at davis' annual pre-gala. check out concreteloop.com for more.

7.16.2009

2 of my favorite looks from espy 09 red carpet.

did venus bring it or what?! she looks beautiful in her mara hoffman dress.

and i'm really diggin carmelo anthony's look. he's such a cutie.

7.10.2009

out and about.

thandie also made an appearance at the harry potter premiere last night. i'm absolutely loving her complete look.

can't say the same for salli richardson whitfield's look. she hit up another event in ny. something just isn't working with this, in my opinion:

ashanti went to the harry potter premiere too. not one of my favorite looks on her:
but i'll wrap up on a positive note. rachel roy, who doesn't always wow me with her dress choices either, looks fabulous at a movie screening last night:

thoughts on last night's bet awards.

i have nothing bad to say about anyone's fashion choices for last night's bet awards. and while everyone is swearing the awards sucked, i give bet an A for pulling together a mj tribute in less than 2.5 days. the tribute was decent.

i thought jaime opened up the show wonderfully, clad in a mj thriller-type outfit. is it me or does jaime always seemed to be blaming it on the a-a-a-alcohol? party animal, he is.

loved the old school performances, the o'jays, maxwell and j. and in that order. i cried as soon as janet walked out. soulja boy jumped up out the bed ... literally. and tiny ... um ok, do you boo. neyo took his hat off. diddy looked mad every time the cameras were shot on him - maybe he's mad that they didn't let him diddy bop across the stage in honor of mj. love keri hilson but wasn't quite sure what was going on at the end of her performance. i could have done without ving rhames, or whatever his name is, weezy and drake. i just need folks to do better. please and thanks. o and i love my girl taraji (although i didn't like her dress). she reminds me of my cousin so much. she's beautiful and funny. and real.

i'm still mad that pleasure p told the world that he was introduced to mj when he was 7 or 8 "when mj was with the jackson 5." um, sweetie, unless you're revealing your true age, no you weren't.

ummm, i had some other observations but i won't bore you. here are some of my favorite looks from last night:

letoya luckett: i saw her in a couple different outfits and she looked cute in both:

amber and kanye: i mean are they bad or what?! it's like you kinda want to hate on them but you just can't. chick is hot. and kanye, well you know i have love for kanye.

b: loved her dress

ray j: got his grown man on (and so did trey songz but i couldn't find a picture of him)
adrienne bailon: hot look

dig it or bury it: brooke from harlem heights.

so did you watch harlem heights last night? it was a'ight. i'll give it another episode or so to get exciting. i do like the fact that bet isn't only fascinated with the wayward. did i just say wayward? i guess that's my political term. i'll just say it, with those who are f'ed up, no direction, etc. they're actually highlighting a group of young professionals who, for the most part, are headed in a promising decision.

monday night the premiere party went down and just when i thought i loved brooke's style steeze, she pops up in this:
not sure how i feel about this. ok, i'm lying, still trying to be political for some reason. truth is i hate it. is it just me? what do you think - do you dig her outfit or want to bury it?

2.23.2009

oscar's 09 bore me.

i've never been a fan of the oscar's. probably because i'm always at least a year late to see any movie. i'm interested, of course, in the fashion choices, of all the boys and girls. i did notice, in between me dozing off, that the program made a decent effort to bring a little excitement and flair to the show. not necessarily exciting to me but maybe to you. here we go:

alicia is beautiful but i could have done without the wig. whose idea was that?

tilda swinton

i hear beyonce rocked house of dereon. i really wish b would sit down somewhere and have a baby or something. i mean the broadway performance ... b, trust me, it's time to sit down for a minute.

i'd never even seen or heard of freido pinto of slumdog millionaire before last night. i'm so out the loop with the movie scene. she wore galliano. nice. and had a happy night because the movie swept. i may check it out.
ok, i probably would have liked this dress on someone older and maybe taller. i mean miley is 17, right? not the right dress for her, in my opinion, even if it is the oscar's.

oh whoopi.

unfamiliar with evan rachel wood but elegant look

halle looks fabulous, as usual.

sarah jessica parker mentioned that her dress was borrowed. how considerate, it is a recession!

queen latifah wore a chakra gown. she sung last night during the tribute to those who passed away in '08.

anne hathaway

viola wore a reem acra dress. i don't hate it but i don't love it. although she didn't win, i congratulate her on the nomination.

our girl taraji looked beautiful in a cavalli gown. no win but congrats, nonetheless.

heidi klum never disappoints me. she always brings her A game.

love that john legend chose brown for the red carpet. brown, when done right, is always a good look on men. he's accompanied by girlfriend, christine, who also looks beautiful.

i'm unfamiliar with leslie mann but absolutely love her dress.

unfamiliar with melissa george but nice dress.

2.13.2009

naacp image awards.

did you watch last night? lots of beautiful people in attendance:
