dame dash opens a vintage thrift shop.
dame dash, roc-a-fella records co-founder and jay-z's former bff, just embarked on a new venture: a men and women's vintage thrift shop called local 172 trading post. the shop features hand-picked, premium vintage wares and is located in the tribeca section of nyc.
that's hot. i want to check it out.

pnkElephant.
when i first checked out the pnkElephant, a hot accessories e-shop, i had no idea that kijafa frink was the owner. who is kijafa you ask? the fiance of one of the best quarterbacks (don't hate) in the nfl, michael vick (e-a-g-l-e-s).
i'm a fan. it's a cute and simple site with cute and affordable rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces. did i say affordable? glad to see that someone hasn't forgotten about the every day fashionistas (with every day bills) who still want to look cute without skipping their car note payments. right?! right. here's some of my favorites:

spike ring, $10 (also available in silver)

cage ring, $14 (also available in pew and gold brass)

asos will launch 2nd hand e-marketplace.
we already love asos thiiisss much. now we can multiply that by 10. why? they're about to launch the asos marketplace, a fixed price marketplace, similar to ebay. the site will focus on clothes, shoes and accessories aimed at fashion lovers looking for deals on 2nd hand items and sellers looking to make some extra cash.
an ebay-like site aimed specifically at fashion sounds like a pretty awesome idea. and judging from the success of asos, i'm sure it'll be a hit. i wonder how the seller fees will compare. do you shop for fashion on ebay? do you think ebay sellers will ditch their current ship and jump onboard to the asos marketplace? time will tell.
i'll definitely be checking it out.

old navy employs madame eva, the booty reader.
let's not all rush over at one time but if you click here, madame eva, old navy's exclusive booty reader, will reveal the best jeans for your derriere.
choose 3 booty tarot cards, upload a booty shot (come on, you know you have a couple obligatory booty shots from you and your girls in the club - joking) and let madame eva tell you which old navy jeans you should spend your $ on.
since i value each and every precious minute of my life, i will not be partaking in this particular booty exercise. however, if you feel the urge to do so ... by all means. and come back and tell us what it was like. i guess.

let's go text shopping.
years ago we thought shopping online was innovative. how about shopping by text?
well you can do just that at subports, an online shop for independent retailers of fashion, art and design. the pretty cool idea was crafted by two guys by the name of karl conrad and william robinson. how it works: sign up and link your credit card to your phone, save your shipping info and once you see something you like, you text the corresponding item subcode to 767825 (spells portal). you'll receive a confirmation text and then you're all set. no user names, passwords, shopping carts, etc.
the site has been around for about a year and new vendors are signing on daily. vendors are able to promote their items offsite, as well. it may take some getting used to but i think it's pretty cool. you?

cami mania.
i think you all can appreciate some good fashion news that i just scooped from the fashionista next door. old navy is having a not-so-secret $2 cami sale starting tomorrow, 7/29 through saturday, 7/31. just mention "cami 4 me" at the counter or print this coupon.
tanks are regularly $8.50. the limit is 5 but you know how we do - take your momma or your man and have them grab 5 more for you. i always need a cami and never have one so i'll be snatching a few.

+ size high-end clothing coming to saks 5th avenue.
saks 5th avenue in new york will add size 14 and some sizes 16-20 to their designer lines. that includes chanel, dolce & gabana, oscar de la renta, valentino, yves saint laurent, alexander mcqueen, fendi, roberto cavali and a host of other high end labels. previously lines only went up to size 10.
the caveat? you'll probably only find one item in each size. well damn, saks. they say if the larger sizes sell well in nyc they'll extend it to sak stores throughout the country. while some of you don't obsess too much over labels anyway, it's still pretty cool that saks is recognizing that everyone isn't a size 0.

things you should know about: same sky bracelets.
talk about fashion you can feel about, i've just became hip to same sky, a company that empowers women by helping them to make a living through entrepreneurship. based in rwanda, same sky partners with gahaya links, a company that employs hiv+ women who are all survivors of the 1994 rwandan genocide. rather than a hand out, these women are taught a jewelry-making skill that allows them to rebuild their lives and care for themselves and their families.
they have two lines of bracelets - the glass bead bracelets ($160) are crocheted with handblown glass beads and the fabric wrap bracelets ($40) are braided with fabrics and adorned with beads. they are available at several stores throughout new york, houston, vegas and jamaica. they're also available directly through their online shop.

just say no to cameltoe.
have mercy. camelflege (get it, camelflege like camouflage) created a pair of panties that are specifically designed to "smooth out your feminine parts under tight clothing."
before and after:
before you ask, yes, i am dead serious.
an insert is sewn into the panty securely so ... um, just check it out for yourself if you're curious.
now you may laugh but do you secretly wish you had thought of it yourself? lol. the gossip blogs love to point out celeb cameltoes. cameflege may be on to something.
before and after:
stop laughing!

urban outfitters expands into beauty.
just got an email from urban outfitters announcing their expansion into the world of beauty. you already know that urban outfitters is a fun, offbeat type of store so after a quick scan of their site, their beauty products seems to follow a similar format.
they now carry lines such as anna sui, lipstick queen and stila and have everthing from makeup to perfumes to accessories and tools to hair and skin care.
smart move on their part. very.
check it out here.
p.s.
free shipping 'til 6/8 on any order that includes their beauty stuff.

problem: mismatched ta-tas. solution: fruit of the loom.
kinda surprised that this didn't happen sooner but fruit of the loop has created the perfectly pair bra. for who? ladies with two differently sized breasts. each cup is bought separately according to your size and then snapped together to create a custom bra. you can mix and match from a variety of styles.
i just have 1 question. why didn't i think of this?

and there was donyale luna.
some of the most beautiful vintage model pictures available on the web belong to this strangely captivating 60s/70s model. yes, before there was naomi and tyra, there was her.
her name is donyale luna. so she said. although her birth certificate claimed otherwise, she insisted that her father (who was killed when she was 18) had a last name of luna.
in fact she spent most of her short life denying her african-american heritage. this was a well known fact. a family member once described luna as being a "very weird child, even from birth, living in wonderland, a dream." and so in her crafted wonderland, she became an exotic mixture of several different heritages, a wonderland that took her far away from peggy anne freeman, the beautiful, but troubled detroit-born girl.
still, today we know her as the first african-american model. in 1964, soon after photographer, david mccabe, discovered her on the street, she was off to new york city and booking modeling gigs left and right. a sketch of her appeared on the cover of harper's bazaar in 1965. and in 1966, she became the first black model to grace the cover of british vogue.
luna's acting career bustled in the late 60s into the early 70s. she appeared in several andy warhol movies, federico fellini's fellini satyricon, the rolling stones rock and roll circus, skidoo and salome. when asked by a new york times journalist if she thought her success in hollywood films would help the cause of other black actresses, luna responded:

"if it brings about more jobs for mexicans, asians,
native americans, africans, groovy. it could
be good, it could be bad. i couldn't care less."
after moving to london in the 60s, luna developed a love for lsd. in an interview she expressed this: "i think it's great. i learned that i like to live, i like to make love, i really do love someone, i love flowers, i love the sky, i like bright colors, i like animals ..." unfortunately, this love for lsd would result in an accidental overdose in may of 79. she was just 34. today she is survived by her daughter, dream cazzaniga, who works as a professional dancer in italy. dream's father, luigi cazzaniga, had photographed luna for her nude spread in playboy just 2 years earlier.
i became so engrossed in this mysterious individual and her life story. i started thinking of the movie mahogany and how great luna's story would be on screen. don't you think? i wish someone would make it happen.

the rack trap.
i enjoy a hot purse just like the next fashionista but do you sometimes feel like it's in the way? i feel this way not so much at the club (even while balancing a drink in one hand, purse in the other, and keeping my two-step looking cute) but moreso when i'm at the supermarket or the mall.
the rack trap is the answer. it's a subtle bra pocket that allows you to stash your essentials: the cash and the plastic.
it comes in 5 different colors. 1 goes for $7.95 or you can buy a 4-pack for $19.95. brilliant. check it out over at theracktrap.com.
p.s.
this reminds me of my late nana who used to stash her cash in her bra back in the day. years ago, i was no older than 10, my nana misplaced her money. we - aunts, uncles, cousins - tore her house up looking for this missing money ... probably, on the low, thinking such and such probably swiped it. low and behold, after an hour of searching, her money pops up. where was it? in her bra. ha!

shape fx.
did you go in as hard as i did at the dinner table on christmas? of course you did. that's what we do. it's no time to be regretting that extra serving of macaroni and cheese. let me introduce you to shape fx.
per their website, shape fx is strategically designed merchandise that makes the body you have the body you want.
sounds good to me.
but what does that mean, you ask. ok, like:
their padded shoulder bra adds extra shape to flatter the shoulders and enhance the tatas, $29:

their sculpting shorts flatten the pouch and lift your butt, $20:

i like the site because it allows you to shop by figure type or target zone. check out all their goodies over at shapefx.com.
